Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program, reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year, is celebrated annually October 23- 31. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free lifestyle. The Elks National Drug Awareness Program is the largest volunteer drug awareness program in the United States, and the Brazil Elks Lodge #762 is honored to be a part of the Red Ribbon Week celebration at the Clay County Courthouse on Wednesday.

Officers and members of the Brazil Lodge handed out Drug Awareness information and materials to Clay County's 5th-grade students provided by the Elks National Foundation's Drug Awareness Program.

The Brazil Elks Lodge 762 and the Elks Drug Awareness Program is also encouraging everyone to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day dedicated to the safe disposal of unused or expired medications. The 14th Annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. The local collection site will be at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, 1206 E. National Ave., Brazil, and is being coordinated by the Brazil Police Department. Additional information may be obtained at https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/index.html .

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications.
