Firefighters struggle with flames, freezing cold and ice during residential fires Monday
Members of several fire departments responded to a structure fire at a residence located on State Road 340, near the intersection at Twin Beach Road.
The fire was reported at 4 p.m., Monday, and firefighters from Clay and Vigo counties as well as Brazil struggled to put out the fire amid freezing temperatures that made getting water difficult and helped create icy conditions on the roads as water trucks traveled back and forth.
The American Red Cross was contacted, asking for assistance.
When a second structure fire was reported in Carbon on Linden Street shortly after 5 p.m., members from Dick Johnson left the scene of the first fire to help assist Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department with the second incident.
