Planning under way for Fishing Fun Day
The annual Brazil Fishing Fun Day at Craig Park has been scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 8. That was one of the items discussed at Tuesday’s meeting of the Brazil Board of Parks and Recreation.
Fishing poles have been donated and it is possible each child will receive a tackle box this year, said Janet McClellan, board member.
Bicycles are being donated, a boys bike and girls bike for each age group, as well.
Board President Brian Bemis said new playground equipment is to be installed in the days ahead at Craig Park and Forest Park.
The condition of one of the tennis courts at Babe Wheeler Park, the city’s oldest municipal park, was discussed.
Work needs to be done and board member Carrol Evans suggested the court could be turned into a pickleball court and tennis court combination. No decision was made.
It was announced work has started on the base of the Forest Park Fountain.
Park Superintendent Marv Moon’s report was read. No major issues occurred during the Brazil Rotary Club’s 4th of July Celebration. However, a piece of electrical equipment had to be replaced at a cost of $350.
“The Rotary Club did an amazing job communicating with the parks department,” Moon wrote in his report.
McClellan said smaller than usual crowds resulted in less revenue at the concession stand.
But board member Larry Wyndham commented, “You can’t set records every year.”
The next parks board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 14th, in City Hall.
