Born August 6, 1909, in Brazil, Indiana, George N. Craig earned a law degree at Indiana University, served as a lieutenant colonel in World War II, and became national commander of the American Legion. In 1952, he was elected Governor of Indiana. In 1955 Craig was featured on the cover of Time magazine, with his reforms throughout the state being touted as a national example.
