Raymond E. Curtis Jr.
Raymond E. Curtis Jr., 84, of Clay City, passed away at his home on August 4, 2018 following an extended illness.
Ray was born on January 22, 1934, in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of Raymond E. Curtis Sr. and Frances May (Hurst) Curtis. He attended Ashboro High School and then graduated from Clay City High School following the schools consolidation. Ray worked for Arketex Block in Brazil until he broke his back when the bottom of the kiln gave way.
Ray married Janice (Ruth) Curtis on June 18, 1981. They attended the Clay City Assembly of God where he served as worship leader. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two special great grandchildren Brentley and Avian. He also enjoyed being outdoors, working in his garden, hunting, fishing and playing guitar.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Frances Curtis; siblings: David Curtis, Shirley Smith, Beverly Stark, Larry Curtis and Naomi Dove and his first wife Carolyn Curtis.
Survivors include his wife Janice Curtis; children: Kenneth Curtis, Leota (Jerry) Kinder, Karen (Doug) Shepler, Rodney (Tammy) Curtis, Jimmy (Amy) Curtis, Jana (Chuck) Basham, and Shannon Curtis; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings: Sandra (Jack) Warren, Brenda Philpot, and Barbara Tryon as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth Street Clay City, Indiana 47841 on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 11am until 1:00pm. Services will be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:00pm.
