Cahill captures Riddell National Bank Brazil Open

Times Staff Report

Former Terre Haute South and Indiana Wesleyan University standout Drew Cahill shot a two-day score of 130 to capture the Riddell National Bank Brazil Open title at Forest Park Golf Course over the weekend. He was able to outlast the course’s Director of Golf, Troy Farris by one stroke.

On the first day of competition, both Cahill and Ezra Evans carded five-under-par 66’s with Northview boys’ golf coach Chris DeHart, Farris and Braxton McIntyre each one stroke back after shooting a 67.

In Sunday’s final round, DeHart shot a front nine 31 to pull into a tie with Cahill, who shot 32. The pair headed into the back nine holes where DeHart bogied the 11th hole as Cahill edged back in front by a stroke. Both golfers bogied the 13th, but DeHart rallied for a one shot lead when he birdied the 14th and 16th holes. However, Cahill came up with the shot of the match when he chipped in for eagle on the 17th hole to regain a one stroke advantage. Both DeHart and Cahill birdied the 18th as Cahill took a lead into the clubhouse.

Farris was coming on quickly however as he played the best back nine of the tourney by shooting a 31 with five birdies to tie DeHart for second-place. Cahill also won a 2016 Chevy Cruise two years ago with a hole-in-one at Rea Park while playing in a tournament sponsored by Ivy Tech Scholarship Foundation.

Skill shot winner were Jeff Yocom (Hole 2), Daniel Eaglin (Hole 5) and Steve Paquin (Hole 11).

The Club Championship will take place on Aug. 18-19.
