Fire marshal to determine cause of fire at rural home Thursday

Clay County 911 Dispatch sent firefighters from four departments to a fully engulfed structure fire in the area of 1445 East Frontage Road Thursday shortly before 3 p.m.

The smoke from a fully engulfed structure fire Thursday afternoon could be seen for several miles, especially by motorists on Interstate 70.

Members from four fire departments - Jackson, Center Point, Van Buren and Posey Township - as well as STAR Ambulance and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a fire located in an area of 1445 East Frontage Road at the Clay County 911 Dispatch Center around 4 p.m. The vehicles from the various first responders blocked a portion of the road while they worked the scene.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s State Fire Marshal Office has been contacted to help determine the cause of the fire.
