The Clay City Calico Quilters will meet Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Pizza Gallery in Clay City. Election of officers will be held and program planning will be decided for the upcoming year. Everyone is welcome.

The Baysinger family reunion will be at Forest Park on Aug. 18th on the Northeast corner of the Cow Palace. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m.. Family and friends are invited.

The Clay Community School Board of Trustees meets in regular session the second Thursday of each month in the Board Room of the Central Administrative Office, 1013 South Forest Avenue, Brazil. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. unless otherwise notified.

The First Presbyterian Church in Brazil will serve dinner from 5-5:30 p.m. every Sunday. The free dinners are available to anyone in the community, and to-go boxes are available. The church is located at 210 N. Walnut St., Brazil.

The Brazil Church of the Nazarene Children’s Clothes Closet is located at 1002 E National Ave. To place an order for a needy child, call the church office at 812-446-0371.

First Baptist Church Kid’s Kloset, 413 S. Walnut St., Brazil, is open most Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Call the church office, 812-448-8112, to make an appointment. If no answer, leave a message with a name and number, sizes and gender of each child and the type of clothing they need.

The Brazil Times is a drop-off location for used glasses and hearing aids for the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. A drop box is located inside the Times, 531 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The Clay County Health Department offers assistance with tobacco cessation. The department provides an 8-10 week program that features education and support as well as free nicotine patches (prescription required). For more information, call 812-448-9019.

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter hosts support groups across the state for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

The groups meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Vigo County Public Library, Terre Haute.

The Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety and City Council will meet on the second Wednesday of each month and on the fourth Wednesday when warranted.

The Board of Works meets at 10 a.m., and the City Council meets at 5 p.m. Both meetings are in the council chambers in City Hall on National Avenue.

The Brazil Fraternal Order of Eagles #274, 122 East National Ave., Brazil, has a limited number of T-shirts for sale and will continue to collect donations on behalf of the Shop With A Cop program until Wednesday, Nov. 27 to reach their goal of $7,000. The Clay County Genealogical Society will hold a one-day Cemetery Restoration Workshop on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the Zion United Church of Christ located in Poland, Indiana, one mile south of Highway 42 on the Poland/Bowling Green Road.

Every day there are veterans in our community who are unable to get to their medical appointments due to lack of transportation. Serve your community by volunteering to drive Veterans to and from their medical appointments by using vans provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. August is Special at the Brazil Public Library in the Youth Services Department! We will be having 5 programs in August instead of our normal 4 Thursday evening Weekly Youth Programs.

August 15th is our Books before Bedtime. This has evolved into reading a few good books together, doing a small craft and finishing the evening with some Group Dancing. Always a fun night!

August 22nd is Family Game Night. A competitive evening filled with laughter and fun. Games are played together as a group and everyone always have a blast.

We close out our month with a Special craft night on August 29th. Come learn how to make String Art and take your very own Masterpiece home!

As a reminder, all programs start at 6pm. No signup necessary, just come and play! See you there!
