Indiana WIC Can Save You Money

Thursday, August 15, 2019

Indiana WIC can save you money and depending on your situation WIC may be able to save your family more than $3000 a year. Family members who may be eligible are pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women and children from birth up to 5 years of age. Income guidelines beginning 7/1/2019 have increased. Income guidelines are based on the number of people in the household.

For example, a family of 4 can have a gross annual income up to $47,638; a family of 6 can have a gross annual income up to $63,992. Individuals already eligible for Medicaid/ HIP are income eligible; any household that has TANF or SNAP also is income eligible.

A pregnant woman counts as two people. WIC clients receive access to registered dietitians, lactation resources, and breastfeeding peer counselors in most clinics.

Clients receive monthly food benefits on the e-WIC card including fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs, juice, yogurt, cereal, bread, tortillas, baby formula depending on the family members who are participating. Breastfeeding women receive a larger food package which adds extra items and have access to good quality loaner breast pumps. WIC clients now have the INWIC App to find WIC stores and clinics, receive reminders about future appointments, access to eligible food lists, and can scan most food items for eligibility. There are no charges for any WIC services. Indiana WIC is managed through the Indiana State Department of Health and is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
