Become:

Ephesians 2:1-10

The following words offer one of two things. Either a reminder for those that have chosen to accept the love of Jesus or as words of hope for those who are caught in the any type of sin within their life.

“2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”

All past tense, we all were, we all used to, we all followed and lived in ways which were deserving of God’s wrath. But love, but grace, but mercy changed everything. If you have not yet discovered these gifts of God they we pray that you will join us as we journey through Ephesians to discover who we can become in Jesus.

This is our personal challenge as we study together.

“We can never BECOME who God wants us to be by remaining who we are.”

We want to invite anyone to come and worship with us or simply come and find out more about Jesus with us. As we pray for an opportunity to love others one step closer to Jesus.

First Christian Church

This Sunday, our senior minister, Chris Gregg, invites you to come and join us. We are continuing a sermon series, “A Generous Life” this Sunday morning. This Sunday we are going to answer the question, “Who Owns It All?”

We are located on the west edge of Brazil, on US Highway 40, and have two worship services each Sunday morning. Our 8:30 am service is an upbeat, traditional service. Our 10:50 am service is an uplifting and inspiring contemporary service. Our dress is informal, our worship is intentional, and our message is eternal. Please come and be our guest. Sunday School and Adult Bible Fellowship Classes are at 9:40 am. Our website is www.fccbrazil.org, and our phone number is 812-446-2214.

WeeKidz, our preschool ministry, meets in the east wing of the church during both the 9:40 am Sunday School hour and the 10:50 am worship service. Children infant-preschool learn about our best friend, Jesus, in a fun and safe environment. KidZone, our elementary worship ministry, will meet in the gym of the Family Life Center during both the 9:40 am Sunday School hour and the 10:50 am worship service. KidZone is a fun, welcoming, engaging, and modern environment for kids K-5th grade! Kids can expect to watch videos, play games, color, sing, dance, and so much more in KidZone!

For students grades 6-12, this Sunday we have Open Gym and Worship Uncoiled. Open Gym (5:00-6:00) is a relaxed time where you can come, hang out with friends, shoot some hoops and play some dodgeball. To get to Open Gym enter the doors right under the “Family Life Centre” sign. Right after Open Gym, we have Worship Uncoiled (6:00-8:00). At Worship Uncoiled we have a full meal, a game, prizes, singing, and a short practical lesson. To get to Worship Uncoiled just go in the main doors under the big drive through awning. It is an incredible weekly event that you won’t want to miss!

Every Sunday Morning we have Sunday School for students grades 6-12. To get to our area, just go in the doors by the big “KidZone” sign, turn left at the desk and go around the corner.

First Baptist Church

A ministry of our church that is often overlooked is the church library. We have many Christian books available for the congregation’s use at no cost and with no deadlines. Many fiction and non-fiction books have been donated or acquired over the years. Popular items right now seem to be Amish fiction and anything by Karen Kingsbury or Jan Karon. Take a few minutes to browse the selection in the church office.

Preparations are underway for Operation Christmas Child. This program asks those of us who are able to fill a shoebox with hygiene items, school supplies, and toys for a child who might otherwise receive no gift for Christmas. To participate, pick up a box in the sanctuary, make your plans to go Christmas shopping, and bring the filled shoebox back to church by early-November. They will be gathered and shipped to children in the U.S. and around the world with a message of God’s love from Samaritan’s Purse.

Upcoming event: A Fall Craft Day will be held at 2:30 p.m. on October 6th to make a no-sew pumpkin. Sign up on the bulletin board in the Education Wing and bring the cardboard from an empty roll of toilet paper and a glue gun if you have one.

See Nicole O’Dell or Lisa Reyher with any questions.

You are invited to join us at the following weekly services. Sunday School classes for all ages at the First Baptist Church begin at 9:30 a.m. Worship service follows at 10:30 a.m. with Nursery and KidMo offered for children through the 5th grade.

On Wednesday, an Adult Bible Study is held at 12 noon at the YMCA and choir practice is held at the church at 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, the Kid’s Klothes Kloset is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and in the evening an Adult Bible Study and Youth Group (during the school year) for middle and high schoolers both begin at 7 p.m.

First Baptist Church is located at 413 South Walnut Street. The church phone number is (812) 448-8112.
