Become: Submissive

Become the Family, Husband, Wife, Children God desires

Ephesians 5:21-33 and 6:1-9

Supplemental Passages

Philippians 2:1-8, Colossians 3:23-24

Paul’s words in Ephesians 5 have become a controversial topic in all of society, even within the church. Why is Biblical submission portrayed as such a negative concept? If you take a look at God’s design and the full counsel of God on this issue you will find that Biblical submission is not controversial or oppressive but in fact it is beautiful!

Throughout the New Testament there are more than 50 instances where the words one another are used. Nearly all of them strive to convey the same message. Jesus said time and time again to love one another. Each of the other one another statements show us to how to love one another, they are all examples. The act of submission is an expression of loving one another and loving our God. This text is deep, it is rich and it is meant to be shared with one another.

It would be a joy for you to join us this Sunday as we read and study the words Paul wrote to the Church of Ephesus that have been preserved throughout time for us in the world today.

We want to invite anyone to come and worship with us or simply come and find out more about Jesus with us. As we pray for an opportunity to love others one step closer to Jesus.

First Baptist Church

It is November and that means it is time to prepare for our 34th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Last year we served around 400 people, so many hands are needed to donate food, cook turkeys, set up, pack, deliver, serve, and clean up. Sign-up sheets for volunteers are now on the bulletin board in the education wing. Please pitch in where you are able and make this a memorable Thanksgiving. The sit down meal will be served at 12 noon at the church on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th. Carry outs will be available at 11 a.m. and delivery is also available for residents of Cooper Towers, Jackson Gardens, and Meridian Towers. Reservations must be made by November 25th by calling the church at (812) 448-8112 and leaving a message with your call back number.

Amazingly Operation Christmas Child is nearing its end with the deadline for bringing filled shoeboxes to the church on November 17th. If filling a shoebox seems too daunting a task, the Youth Group has agreed to collect items and pack shoeboxes on November 14th, that means this Sunday is the deadline to bring loose items to contribute to their efforts. Bins have been placed to collect them. Just bring hygiene items, school supplies, or small toys and add them to the bins. There is a flyer on the bulletin board and on the table in the back of the sanctuary with suggested items. Another way to participate is to donate to the cost of shipping the shoeboxes. The fee this year is $9 per shoebox. Pick what works for your schedule and budget and help provide a meaningful Christmas gift for children who might otherwise receive nothing this year. Contact Marilyn Trout or Shelli Torbert with any questions.

You are invited to join us at the following weekly services. Sunday School classes for all ages at the First Baptist Church begin at 9:30 a.m. Worship service follows at 10:30 a.m. with Nursery and KidMo offered for children through the 5th grade. On Wednesday, an Adult Bible Study is held at 12 noon at the YMCA and choir practice is held at the church at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, the Kid’s Klothes Kloset is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and in the evening an Adult Bible Study and Youth Group (during the school year) for middle and high schoolers both begin at 7 p.m.

First Baptist Church is located at 413 South Walnut Street. The church phone number is (812) 448-8112. Our interim pastor is the Rev. Dr. Mark W. Hetrick. His cell is (317) 697-2485 and email is revdocmark@sbcglobal.net. The church website is www.brazilbaptistchurch.com.

Peniel United Methodist Church

You are welcome to join us at Peniel United Methodist Church on November 10, the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost. Sunday School classes are offered for both children and adults. Classes begin at 10:00 a.m. Related seasonal crafts are offered on occasion for the children.

Our Worship Service begins at 11:00 a.m. and is accompanied by a traditional choir. Pastor Kent Beckman’s sermon is entitled: The LOVE effect. The scripture reference is 1 Corinthians 13:13.

Please don’t toss those plastic lids and bottle caps in the trash! Save them and bring them to Peniel where they are then contributed to St. Mary of the Woods for recycling and then made into plastic benches! We also collect pull tabs from soda cans. They are donated to Riley Children’s Hospital for their recycling program.

Many thanks to each of you for your ongoing support of our local Food Pantry on Pinckley Street. As you may already know, personal hygiene items, laundry and cleaning supplies can not be purchased with Food Stamps. Shampoo, deodorant, tooth paste, laundry detergent and dish soap are always in short supply. Your donation of any of these items truly makes a difference to a family in need. For your convenience, non-perishable food or any of the items listed above may be brought to the Worship Service to be collected by the children during the Offering. Or, any of the above listed donations maybe left in the Fellowship Hall after the service. Peniel Pantry workers will deliver your items to the Food Pantry on Monday. May God bless you for your generosity!

Peniel UMC is located at 9525 N. Kennedy Crossing Road, just one mile north of Northview High School. Phone: (812) 442-8062. You can find us on Facebook @ PenielUnitedMethodistChurch. Come, join us at Peniel and ‘Catch the Spirit!’
