The Wonder of Christmas: The Excitement and Anticipation of the coming Messiah

Micah 5:2-4, Isaiah 7:14, 9:1-3 and 9:6-7

What is your favorite Christmas memory? Go ahead, take a moment. Write it out, sometimes it helps to see things in print. There is a reason that thought came to mind. It might prompt you to make a phone call, send a text or drop by and see someone that played a role in that memory. Don’t miss out on that divine appointment.

In the world today, the wonder of Christmas has been lost for many. Some have never known the real meaning behind the celebration, while others have had that childlike feeling taken from them in exchange for the stress the world has brought to the holiday. This Christmas we are taking a look at the wonder of Christmas as it was felt by those who anticipated its arrival.

When you place yourself in the position of those who heard the prophetic words of the coming Messiah for the 1st time or those that passed it down from generation to generation.  How would you have received them?

Has the wonder of Christmas been lost for you?  What has taken it?  Pray that God will restore the wonder in your mind and heart as you share the message and Spirit of Christmas with those you know this year.

We pray that God will lead you to a church this Christmas season to celebrate not only the birth of Jesus but the life, the death and the resurrection of your Savior as well. If you do not have a church to call home, we pray that God just might lead you our way. You are invited to come and worship with us. We are praying for an opportunity to love you one step closer to Jesus.

First Baptist Church

Many thanks to all who donated their best in food, time, talent, and effort, and for all who participated in our 34th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Now it is time to turn our attention to Christmas.

With all the commercialization of Christmas in our culture, the true meaning of Christmas can get lost. On Thursday December 5th, Child Evangelism Fellowship will hold a Christmas Party Club from 6 - 7:30 p.m. for children age 5 - 12 in our Fellowship Hall. This program presents the birth of Jesus as the real reason we celebrate Christmas. Bring your children out for this active presentation through the lesson, games, crafts, songs, and treats.

On Thursday, December 19th at 7 p.m., we will offer a Blue Christmas service specifically designed for folks mourning the loss of a loved one. And on Tuesday, December 24th at 7 p.m., there will be a Christmas Eve Service to reflect on the birth of our savior.

You are invited to join us at the following weekly services. Sunday School classes for all ages at the First Baptist Church begin at 9:30 a.m. Worship service follows at 10:30 a.m. with Nursery and KidMo offered for children through the 5th grade. On Wednesday, an Adult Bible Study is held at 12 noon at the YMCA and choir practice is held at the church at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, the Kid’s Klothes Kloset is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and in the evening an Adult Bible Study and Youth Group (during the school year) for middle and high schoolers both begin at 7 p.m.

Little Historic Church at Carbon

It is our pleasure to announce that the Brazil Community Choir will be performing Friday, December 6th at 7:00 PM. The choir, under the direction of Shaun Short, will present Peace Has Come, a Christmas Musical written and arranged by Mary McDonald. This cantata is both lovely and lively. It embodies the story of Christ’s birth through a variety of both classical music and beloved carols. The message of Peace Has Come brings the listener to a renewed appreciation of God’s most precious gift.

The Little Historic Church is located at 14695 N. Linden St., Carbon. For more information contact Kate Hoag at 812-251-4532.

The Door Christian Fellowship Church

“Tortured for Christ,” a full-length cinematic re-telling of the lives of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, will be shown Saturday, November 30 at The Door Christian Fellowship Church.

The Wurmbrands were missionaries in communist Romania in the 1950s. Richard suffered 14 years of imprisonment and brutal torture while Sabina was treated as a slave in a labor camp. Through it all, they loved their enemies and woght to win their torturers to Christ. Soon after their release4 and return to America they began the ministry of The Voice of the Martyrs which for over 40 years has served the persecuted church.

We as Christians remembered on the first Sunday of November the International Day of Prayer for the persecuted church. May we come and be stirred by this testimony and to remember the persecuted for Christ always.

The movie will begin at 7 p.m. Popcorn and soda will be served. The Door is located at 511 E. Blaine St.

For information or transportation call 812-201-3966.

Happy Thanksgiving season.
