What has happened to people?

Monday, February 10, 2020

To the editor:

What in the world has happened to people? I had someone try to get into my apartment a couple nights ago, violently shaking my doorknob. It was dark outside and I was sitting at the table 5 yards from the side door. I sat there with a 9 mm pistol, not wanting to kill anyone. I had a key hidden outside

I was thinking someone might think I was still in the hospital, that I was an easy pick with the lights on.

I thought it best to sing our a call to the city police, repeating, “They are on the way.”

The person ran off.

What could have happened?

The police arrived and I call dispatch for the police to knock and identify themselves. I asked them to return my hidden key.

I didn’t sleep the rest of the night.

I read in the Brazil Times about men breaking in and injuring a man and taking his wallet and two TVs and were caught.

I could have hurt or killed someone.

I read another article where a female said, “Don’t join the military.” (Terre Haute paper.)

We have Iran killing Americans and we have Middle East countries bombing our ships. We have allowed Russia to build in areas of Alaska and put in bases and it seems to me every time these people violate our USA soil that we make concessions. Out people don’t want war and neither do I but we have people writing to stop volunteering. . How about protecting the USA?

Yes, I’m upset. I love the USA.

Ring up the people running for office and ask them what they stand for. Keep America safe.

I have a great-grandson in Alaska the past three years who was there because he volunteered in the Air Force.

We are still collecting pop tabs for McDonald House, Indianapolis. We take no funds for bagging or hauling. We collect cans for Rice for Haiti Children. It’s a continuous project. Phone our pastor at Community Mission Church or drop your contributions off at Bedwell Tire on National Avenue or at our church, 21 W. Pinckley St., Brazil.

Sincerely,

Marion “Sarge” Eveland Jr., Brazil
