Signs of the times

The “Heroes Work Here” sign in front of Brazil City Hall was donated by Clover Signs, as a way to recognize and “thank” the police and fire department officers helping the community during COVID-19. Another sign will be installed at the Clay County Sheriff’s Department soon.

A simple idea - a sign to recognize the hard work being done during the recent COVID-19 outbreak - is about to go national.

“I think it’s wonderful,” said Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham Wednesday afternoon about the new sign on the lawn at City Hall. “It’s going to bring awareness from the community to the effort being put forth by our local law enforcement and fire departments in response to COVID-19. Hats off to Clover Signs.”

Andy Allender, the owner of Clover Signs, 932 West National Avenue, Brazil, admits the company created the design featuring children as superheroes but doesn’t accept credit for the idea which is about to go national.

“There’s a lot of people involved in this who deserve credit, but Exceptional Living called us about creating a sign to show appreciation for the work being done at their facility,” said Allender, who spoke to Dr. Ron Leach about the idea. “Dr. Leach believed we needed to do this not just for hospitals and nursing homes across the United States, but for police, fire, and other EMS organizations.”

The sign is currently in production at the Brazil business to be shipped out soon to 15 other locations across the nation. One sign is being created for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and is expected to be installed this week.

“At least we can do this to recognize what they are doing for us,” Allender said about giving something back in appreciation. “We get to stay at home. They can’t.”
