TOP STORY OF THE DAY: 3 deaths from COVID-19

Although the Indiana State Health Department (ISDH) website has not updated Clay County’s COVID-19 information, on Wednesday, Clay County Public Health Nurse Kim Hyatt confirmed the third death.

Hyatt said the local resident had been hospitalized for the illness, same as the other two cases reporting deaths. Further details were not being released due to the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

The total of COVID-19 positive cases in Clay County remains at 52, with one person reported hospitalized. The total number of cases tested so far in Clay County is 932. Of the remaining COVID-19 cases reported, Hyatt confirmed the remaining patients are in various stages of recovery, with 21 still in self-isolation, and 27 others recovered.

The ISDH reports 35,712 positive cases have been reported among the 6.7 million Indiana residents, with 265,896 residents tested, and 2,032 deaths reported. (The numbers are provisional, reflecting only the information published to the ISDH.)

Indiana residents whose deaths a physician listed COVID-19 as a contributing cause, are based on X-rays, scans, and other clinical symptoms with an absence of a COVID-19 test. None are reported in Clay County at this time. However, the ISDH website shows 175 throughout the state.
