The community came out to help support the “Jackie Strong” fundraiser on Friday.

The Staunton Community Center was a buzz of activity during the spaghetti dinner and silent auction to help pay the funeral expenses for Staunton Resident Jackie Miller who was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer, passing away a few days before the event.

Members of the Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department organized the dinner to help raise money for Miller’s family, and are continuing to do so.

Posey Fire Chief Cody Barnard confirmed donations can still be sent to Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 32, Staunton, IN, 47811. Please fill out the check memo line with “Jackie Strong” so officials know where to put the funds.

“Jackie Strong” T-shirts (for $20 each small-extra large, and $25 each for size 2X and up) created in support of the fundraiser.

“We are going to take orders as long as anyone wants one,” said Barnard, adding the shirt orders can be emailed to the department at poseyfire@nwcable.net.

Barnard was thankful for the successful turnout for the fundraiser.

“I was extremely impressed with the turn out for this event. By 5:30, we had already surpassed my expectations,” said Barnard, who greeted guests who come to enjoy dinner and share some memories of Jackie and her family. “We served around 400 meals for the night. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for this community for coming together to support this family in their time of grief and sorrow. I know the family appreciates it too.”
