Clay County Youth Food Delivery program gearing up to help families
The Clay County Youth Food Program will be delivering two weeks of Christmas break food on Saturday to 795 children in 317 Clay County families.
If you know a family in Clay County who could use a bit of help over the Christmas break for their children 18 years of age and younger, program administrators encourage those families to contact them either through their Facebook page ("Clay County Youth Food Delivery Program"), by e-mail at clayyouthfoodprogram@gmail.com or by calling the Clay County YMCA at (812) 442-6761.
Delivery is on Saturday to any family who has signed up. Volunteers will set the food at the door, knock on the door and leave.
On Dec. 7, the group only had 40 delivery drivers signed up to volunteer, but that number grew to 102 by Dec. 13.
Volunteers will be contacted by now as to when to come.
"We will miss everyone being able to come together as we have in years past, but our community is showing up and we are figuring it out together," program coordinators said in a Facebook post.
For anyone registering, organizers need the parent’s last name, address and the number of children in your home for Christmas break.
"We all know that this year has made everyone change their plans often," the group posted on Facebook. "Follow our FB page for updates, if you can, in case we find we must change our plan."
The program is offered through the Clay County YMCA and YMCA’s Clay County Youth Food Delivery Program.
Christmas delivery is possible because of $10,000 grant from Duke Energy, a $5,000 grant from CenterPoint Energy and the generous donations from our community.
"We are so thankful for the volunteers and donors who make the Clay County Youth Food Delivery Program possible," the group said.
