BREAKING: Clay County Sheriff's Office investigating strange vehicle accident along State Road 59

Friday, May 7, 2021

The details are limited concerning an ongoing Clay County Sheriff's Office active investigation into a strange vehicle accident along State Road 59.

According to officials, law enforcement was actively searching for the whereabouts of a vehicle potentially involved in a recent hit-and-run accident that damaged the Indiana Sherriff's Youth Ranch sign.

Officers were searching for evidence along State Road 59, just north of County Road 500 North, Friday afternoon. When the sun came out, they noticed something down a ravine in the water of a small pond on the east side of the highway.

Indiana State Conservation Dive Team officers assisted in the vehicle recovery.

Due to the steep ravine (approximately 200 feet) making the recovery of the vehicle potentially dangerous, a portion of the highway between CR 500 N and CR 600 N was closed, allowing Poor Boys Towing to remove the vehicle from 10 feet of the water safely as traffic was rerouted around the area.

Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control.

The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected to be released later.
