The Brazil City Council will take its final step on Wednesday toward adoption of the 2022 city budget.

The council unanimously voted to approve the first reading of the budget and salaries for all city employees at its Sept. 29 meeting.

The total budget for next year will be $6,817,144, with a majority of that amount in the general fund. Other high amounts are $722,500 for a bond payoff, $572,565 for motor vehicle highway funding and $514,091 for sanitation.

No citizens were at the meeting to speak for or against the budget.

Other resolutions adopted included one approving the Indiana Powder Coatings Economic Development Area and another for an interlocal agreement between the Clay County Redevelopment Commission and the City Brazil which relates to teh funding of certain utility improvements at the Clay County Industrial Park.

Times were also set for trick-or-treating, which will be from 6-9 on Oct. 30-31.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.
