Ever since she was a little girl, Northview’s Macey Timberman knew she wanted to play basketball at the collegiate level.

And after three strong seasons as a Knight, she began garnering interest from various schools.

One of them was Parkland College, a community college in Champaign, Illinois. The coaching staff reached out to Northview head girls basketball coach Zack Keyes about setting up a meeting with Timberman after a game in which they invited her to visit the campus and workout with the team.

Timberman spent the day touring the school and its facilities before going through a rigorous practice with the Cobras.

At day’s end, Parkland head coach Laura Litchfield offered the four-year Northview standout an opportunity to play for the program on scholarship.

Timberman didn’t need much time to think about it. She told her parents, TG and Beth, that Parkland was where she wanted to be and that she didn’t want to entertain any other offers.

“One day, [Litchfield] reached out to me to see if I was interested in their program. Then, I took my visit there and they offered me a scholarship. From there, I just stayed in touch with them and didn’t reach out to any other colleges,” Timberman said.

She verbally committed at the end of October and then played her senior season that saw her average 19.7 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game and 2.9 assists per game. Timberman was honored with numerous awards for her season, including being the latest member of the program’s 1,000-point club, which all led up to Monday afternoon in Northview’s Senior Café where she signed her letter of intent to officially become a member of the Parkland College women’s basketball team.

“As a little kid, I’ve always wanted to play basketball. That’s been my main sport. I just knew if I stuck with it, it would pay off. Now it’s paying for my college, which is really cool,” Timberman said. “I couldn’t have done it without any of my teammates and coaches. There’s a lot of support that come from my hometown.”

There were numerous reasons Timberman decided Parkland was the place for her. Among them included the Cobra’s style of play and the school having her major of choice to become a dental hygienist.

“When I practiced with the girls, I got to see how their game was. I liked how they played. It was obviously more intense than a high school game, but I felt like I went in … I just felt welcomed,” said Timberman. “And then of course, my major is there, so that was a big thing.”

With Monday’s signing, Timberman closes the high school chapter of her basketball story and will get set to begin writing the collegiate version when she arrives to the Champaign campus at the end of the summer.

But the memories she’s made at Northview, especially her final season in Brazil, will be something she takes with her long past her time wearing the green and gold of the Cobras.

“The memories from it all, I just feel like no team has been as close than we were to go through Northview. I mean, we set a record for the most wins in a season. We also probably set the record for most comebacks after being down by almost 20 points at halftime and winning somehow. We just believed in ourselves and that’s what I’m going to cherish. And the love that we had for each other, especially us five seniors. Even when we go to college, it’s definitely going to be different playing without them, but I’m excited to [begin at Parkland],” said Timberman.
