UPDATE: BPD investigating Thursday evening shooting

The active investigation into a shooting around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night at the corner of Hendrix and Columbia doesn't have any new information.

This incident allegedly between a pedestrian and a motorist started as an argument and quickly led to gunfire.

The alleged suspect in the incident fleed on foot.

Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen confirmed officers patrolled the area near the 800 block of East Hendrix street but could not locate a possible suspect. McQueen said he doesn't believe the public is in any danger.

Details are limited, but the police are looking for a white male wearing a dark-colored shirt who is believed to have been involved in the shooting.

The unidentified motorist was injured and taken to a Terre Haute hospital for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. (Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, further information about the victims' medical condition is unavailable.)

Official canvassed the area and processed evidence found at the scene throughout the day. Information has been vague so far, so Brazil Police Department hopes the public will help.

"Hopefully, the public can provide information that will fill in the blanks. They can help us with the case," McQueen said. "Public safety is the most important part."

The Brazil Police Department continues to take all the incoming calls for service to the department while investigating the shooting.

Police are looking for a white male wearing a dark-colored shirt who is believed to have been involved in the shooting in Brazil near Hendrix and North Columbia Street around 10:30 p.m.

Although the details are vague, the Brazil Police Department is actively investigating the case.

Breaking news- 11 p.m., May 5, 2022:

The Brazil Police Department is working on a shooting near Hendrix and Columbia streets in Brazil. An altercation between a pedestrian and a motorist was reported a short time according to Brazil Police Chief Clint McQueen,

McQueen confirmed the details are limited at this time.

An unidentified motorist was taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries.

No details about the shooter are available, who allegedly ran away from the scene.

McQueen said officers are looking for the suspect, and residents should stay away for their safety during the active investigation.

The residents who live in the area need to report anything suspicious to 911.
