John Henry Cox, age 82 of Covington, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023. He was born in Brazil, Indiana on October 3, 1940 to the late Arthur Glen & Mary Ester (Wellman) Cox.

John graduated from Brazil High School in 1960 and proudly served his country in the United States Army for 3 years, where he was a tank mechanic, jeep driver, and pulled guard duty on several occasions. John retired from General Motors Foundry in Danville, Illinois in 1994, where his friends and co-workers knew him as Hee-Haw. He then went on to obtain his CDL and drove for Phelps Trucking and Campbell Construction.

John had several hobbies which included fishing, shooting his guns, riding motorcycles, and flying rented planes. Even in his later years, John enjoyed working on small engines, making his own knives, and liked anything war related. If John wasn’t watching a war movie then a Western was on. Those that knew John were guaranteed to have a good-hearted man that was always willing to help his friends out. He always gave more than he ever asked for.

John married Nancy Franklin and they had one daughter, Tammie L. Cox, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rex Cox and two sisters, Nancy Howald and Carol Carpenter.

He is survived by a brother, Lex (Janet) Cox; a brother-in-law, Ralph Howald; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed by all.

Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 203 S 1st Street in Kingman on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00 am till the time of the celebration of life service at 12:00 pm with Pastor Steve Crum officiating and military honors by the United States Army and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
