SUBMITTED - Derrick Monet and Milo

A scared dog escaped a tragic accident three years ago, but his family has continued the search to bring him back home.

Milo was an emotional support dog for Jenna and a pal to her husband and Brenda’s son, Derrick Monet.

After visiting family for Christmas in Arizona, the couple and Milo were on their way home to Maryland along Interstate 70 when tragedy struck. Their Tesla was in an accident near the 37-mile marker. Jenna was killed, it took more than two hours to get Derrick out of the car, and Milo, frightened, ran away from the vehicle once the roof was off.

Running westward along I-70, the mixed coonhound breed Milo is still on the move today.

“We are waiting for Milo to come home,” said Brenda Monet, who is searching for Milo on behalf of her son. “It’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for my son. He lost his wife, Jenna, and so many people have been trying to find Milo, and they haven’t found him. There have been scammers. It’s all taken a toll on my son. I am being the Momma Bear now in the search for Milo.”

Brenda has new hope because Milo was located in Clay County last October.

Lost Pet Professionals located a scent trail along the I-70 corridor, approximately 10-13 months old.

“We always knew Milo survived,” said Brenda, who has been searching since that day. “Milo ran until he encountered a fence, then crossed a bridge area which could take him to Brazil or the Poland area.”

A billboard is placed in the area of State Roads 46 and 59, with details about the search for Milo and the large reward available for his return - more than $3,000. The billboards have gone viral on TicTok.

“Indiana people have been the best trying to help our family,” said Brenda. “They have just wrapped our family in their arms and helped us search for Milo. I can’t say ‘Thank you’ enough. Some of the people from Clay and Putnam have been on this journey with me from the start.”

SUBMITTED - Milo was an emotional support dog for Jenna Monet, who died tragically in a Tesla accident on Interstate 70 in December 2019. Milo escaped after two hours trapped in the Tesla with Derrick Monet. The Monet family has been searching for Milo ever since, offering a $3,000 reward to bring Milo home.(NOTE: Milo's coloring, especially on his left hip and leg.)

Milo is described as the type of dog that won’t run in town. He’s hiding and scared and trying to avoid humans.

“Milo was never socialized, he was Jenna’s emotional support baby, and he stayed by her side like no other.,” said Brenda. “Milo’s daddy used to play hide and seek in the woods of Maryland. Milo sure is playing that game well now.”

Milo is 5 years old now,

probably has some white and black dots on his black and brown muzzle,

the left hip and left back leg is white with black dots,

and the same black and white dots at the base of the back of the neck,

with all black on the right hip,

and white on his chest, tummy, and about four inches of his tail.

In October, Milo’s scent was detected in the woods and corn fields in Clay County, apparently running in circles. If anyone sees him, please take a picture and post it on the Finding Milo page on Facebook.

Brenda admits she is desperate to find Milo for her son Derrick, a United States Airman who sustained lifelong injuries from the accident.

“The Air Force is taking good care of Derrick, but he needs his buddy to come home,” said Brenda. “I understand if someone picked up Milo, and I ask that you please let him come home.”

Brenda admits the search for Milo is like finding a needle in a haystack, but “We’re still searching Milo and determined to bring you home.”
