David was an avid basketball and baseball player while attending Reelsville High School in Putnam County.   After graduating high school in 1961, he went on to work at IBM Corporation where he worked in a variety of roles.  While his daughters attended South Putnam Schools, he served on the school board for 8 years.  As President of the board, he was an instrumental part of the building of Central Elementary.

Upon the closing of the IBM plant in 1987, David and Nancy moved to Harrisburg, PA for the remainder of his career.  After 30 years of service, he retired in 1991 from IBM while serving in a management position.   David had a love of the countryside and outdoors and was eager to return to his home state of Indiana, where he enjoyed many years as a part time farmer.   A skilled wood worker and craftsman, he renovated the Montgomery family homestead and did countless projects for his family.  Later in life he also served as President of the Reelsville Alumni Association for several years.

David was a long time member of Big Walnut Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.  After moving to Roanoke Rapids in 2022, he attended Victory Baptist Church.

David was a devoted family man.  He and Nancy enjoyed many years of visits with family and friends and were fortunate to travel much of the US together, including visits to Alaska and Hawaii.   They enjoyed being with their children and grandchildren who often lived states apart.   His family will remember him as a hardworking and supportive leader who could always be counted upon.   He will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of David’s life will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church, Reelsville, IN.  in lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Heart Association.
