Celebrating a milestone event - like a 50th birthday - can get out of hand sometimes.

A local woman’s birthday celebration has spilled over into Forest Park, and everyone is invited.

Kevin Stallcop has become friends with many musicians because he drives tour buses.

One day a few years ago, he mentioned his wife’s 50th birthday was coming up and he wanted to do something big.

The musicians with an Eagles Tribute band agreed, and the band ‘7 Bridges” was willing to play for Donna’s birthday at their home.

“I thought many people liked it when they played at the Popcorn Festival,” Kevin explained. “So why not see if we could have a concert in the park so others could come too.”

On a trip to City Hall, Stallcop and his daughter Sarah Conley learned they needed to team up with a nonprofit organization, so Christmas In The Park got involved.

“They asked, what about a car show? I was like sure,” said Kevin; that’s when things began to grow from there to include:

70+ Vendor Market

Food Trucks

Kid Zone with three big bounce houses supplied by Great Dane

“It has turned into an all-day event, starting at 11 a.m. It is called ‘A Kickoff to Summer,’” said

Stallcop. “And it is all free. Come out and enjoy the whole day. And if it rains, we will move the concerts from the bandshell to the Cow Palace.”

When asked about Donna’s birthday, Kevin said it is everything she likes and looks forward to seeing everyone come out and have fun.

“A Kickoff To Summer” will take place at Forest Park on Saturday, May 20th, and hopes are to create an annual event in the future.
