Mary Ann Atkinson, 93, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at her home in Brazil. She was born on March 24, 1930 in Laurel, Indiana to the late Harry and Beatrice Pauline (Longfellow) Burgdoerfer. Ann graduated from Laurel High School in 1948, and married Paul Atkinson on February 24, 1961. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but also briefly worked as a bookkeeper for Eastern Express. Ann was a member of Eastside Christian Church in Brazil for 20 years.

Ann’s greatest passion was singing. She started off singing on the radio as a young girl. Later in life, Ann started competing in the barbershop chorus, Sweet Harmony, in 1993, in which she traveled across the country and to Canada. After competing, Ann and a few friends formed a quartet called Double Take. She also sang in the church choir in Bradenton, Florida and played the piano. Ann thoroughly enjoyed painting China, playing bridge and tap dancing. She was a member of Community Theatre, Home Economics Club and Optimus Club in Clay County. Ann will be known for always finding humor along the way!

Ann is preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Burgdoerfer, Jr. and Vance “Brownie” Burgdoerfer; grandson, Matthew Lye; father and mother-in-law, Alva and Edna Atkinson; son-n-law, Steve Wendell; sister-n-law, Mary Lois Burgdoerfer; and special friend, Mary Tanoose.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Paul Atkinson of Brazil; sons, Michael Stabler of Knightsville, William “Bill” (Rosie) Atkinson of Muncie, David Atkinson of Brazil, Samuel “Sam” (Sheri) Atkinson of Brazil; daughters, Jeanne (Tom) Moore of Longmont, Colorado, Sallie Wendell of Plainfield, Paula Martin of Jasper; grandchildren, Adam (Tonnie) Stabler of Monroe, Ohio, Seth Stabler of Knightsville, Caleb (Heather) Atkinson of Traverse City, Michigan, Katie Atkinson of Muncie, Jake (Amanda) Atkinson of Muncie, Becca (Brad) McNeil of Muncie, Andrew (Laura) Moore of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wesley (Bonnie) Moore of Fort Collins, Colorado, Collin (Rachel) Moore of Longmont, Colorado, Rachel (Tim) Purdy of Franklin, Tennessee, Ben (Julie) Atkinson of Munster, Jen (Jeff) Lye of Westfield, David (Megan) Wendell of Avon, Doug (Sarah) Wendell of Indianapolis, Jared (Jessica) Atkinson of Bargersville, Phillip (Alexis Pearce) Atkinson of Brazil, Mikala Atkinson of Brazil, Noah Martin of Jasper, Olivia Martin of Jasper; 31 great-grandchildren; special cousins, Jerry Burgdofer of Statesville, North Carolina and Susan Gill of Fairfax, Virginia; and special friends, Bonnie Bolinger, Nancy Dean and Barbara Lawrence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil. The family will accept friends for visitation from Noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery in Brazil. Online condolences may be expressed at www.moorefuneralhomes.com
