Hayes finishes high school career with top-60 finish at New Balance Nationals

Saturday, June 15, 2024

With her fifth-place finish with a time of 4:520.60 in the 1600 at the IHSAA girls track and field state finals, Northview’s Ellia Hayes qualified for the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.

The Indiana University signee raised money to fund her trip to Philadelphia, and over the weekend, she, along with her family and Northview girls track and field head coach James Grounds, made the trip east for the final race in her decorated high school career.

Her race in the 1600, held at Franklin Field, was pushed back nearly an hour, but the delay didn’t seem to make much of a difference as Hayes finished with a time of 4:54.68, besting her previous personal best time at the New Balance Nationals to finish 51st overall out of the 92 racers in the championship category.
