Quartet of Knights set to take part in WVFCA All-Star Game

On Saturday evening at Rose Hulman’s Cook Stadium, a quartet of former Northview football players will be putting on their mat gray helmets for the final time while taking part in the 16th annual Wabash Valley Football Coaches Association All-Star Game.

Playing for the Gold Division team, which will have Northview head coach Mark Raetz a part of its coaching staff, tight end/defensive end Caelen Bell, quarterback/cornerback Kyle Cottee, wide receiver/defensive back/punter Luke Marlow and offensive/defensive lineman Aiden Swearingen will have the chance to play alongside each other, as well as 16 – Casey-Westfield, Dugger Union, Eastern Greene, Greencastle, Linton, Marshall, North Putnam, Paris, Red Hill, Richland, Robinson, South Putnam, Sullivan, Terre Haute North, Tri-County and West Vigo – other teams, for the final time at the high school level.

Below are the 2023 season statistics of each player that will be representing the Knights on Saturday at the WVFCA All-Star Game:

Caelen Bell (TE/DE)

Caelen Bell appeared in all 10 games for Northview during the 2023 season. As a tight end, the 6-foot-3 target hauled in nine passes for 199 yards, for an average of 19.9 yards per game, and one touchdown. As a defensive end, Bell recorded 26 total tackles – 20 solo and six assisted on – which included 6.5 tackles for a loss of yardage and 1.5 sacks.

Kyle Cottee (QB/CB)

Kyle Cottee appeared in all 10 games for Northview during the 2023 season. At quarterback, the dual threat signal caller completed 45.6 percent of his passes (31-for-68) for 572 yards for an average of 57.2 yards per game and four touchdowns while running for 1,453 yards on 180 carries for an average of 145.3 yards per game and 19 touchdowns. As a defensive back, Cottee recorded 25 total tackles – 20 solo and five assisted on – and three interceptions.

Luke Marlow (WR/DB/P)

Luke Marlow appeared in nine games for Northview during the 2023 season. At wide receiver, the 5-foot-10 target hauled in five passes for 70 yards while also carrying the ball once for a six-yard gain. As a defensive back, the team’s Swiss Army knife recorded 34 total tackles – 22 solo and 12 assisted on – to go along with seven deflected passes, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. And on special teams, Marlow made 11 punts for 365 yards, giving him an average of 33.2 yards per punt.

Aiden Swearingen (OL/DL)

Aiden Swearingen appeared in nine games for Northview during the 2023 season. On offense, Swearingen, the team’s starting left tackle as a junior and a senior, helped the Knights’ rushing attack run for an average of 361.5 yards per game. And as one of the defensive tackles on the other side of the ball, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound lineman, recorded 36 total tackles – 24 solo and 12 assisted on – which included four for a loss of yardage and two sacks to go along with two fumble recoveries.
