Another drug investigation leads to four arrests

GOODMAN.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department has again been busy taking drugs out of the community.

Clay County Sheriff Brison Swearingen praised the Criminal Investigative Department for its work in a lengthy narcotics investigation that led to the obtaining of several felony warrants Thursday evening during a press release.

On the evening of July 2, 2024, proactive deputies spotted a vehicle traveling on Interstate 70. The driver was found to have an active arrest warrant from an ongoing investigation. 

BORDERS.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, Wardell Wright, 44, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for the active warrant. 

Other criminal indicators were located during the stop, and deputies located illegal items. 

As a result, Wright was arrested, transported to the Clay County Justice Center, and remanded into custody of the jail staff with the following charging information:

• Wardell Wright, 44, Indianapolis, was booked into the Clay County Jail on the following charging information:

WRIGHT.

Dealing in Methamphetamine (Warrant) - Level 2 Felony; Dealing in Cocaine - Level 2 Felony; Possession of Cocaine - Level 3 Felony; and Possession of Marijuana - A Misdemeanor.

The following individuals have also been served with warrants and been incarcerated in the Clay County Jail as a result of lengthy narcotics investigations:

• Levi W. Runnells, 34, Greencastle, IN, was located and arrested for the following charging information:

Dealing in Methamphetamine- Level 2 Felony;  

Possession of Methamphetamine - Level 3 Felony.

Runnells is held with a $50,000 cash bond, which is not 10% acceptable. 

Note: Runnells was wanted on the Clay County warrant and an unrelated Putnam County warrant. Runnells was transported to the Putnam County Jail, but no mugshot was available.

• Shelley K. Borders, 59, Brazil, was served with a felony arrest warrant and was charged with the following information:

Dealing in Methamphetamine- Level 2 Felony; 

Possession of Methamphetamine- Level 4 Felony.

Borders is awaiting court proceedings on a $50,000 bond with no 10% acceptable.

• Jeffrey T. Goodman, 52, of Staunton, was located and arrested for the following charging information:

Dealing in Methamphetamine - Level 4 Felony; and Possession of Methamphetamine - Level 6 Felony.

Goodman is held on a $25,000 bond with no 10% acceptable.

NOTE: Individuals named in the above are considered innocent until proven in a court of law.
