Brenda Kay Shorter, 71, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Brenda was born in Terre Haute on July 4, 1953, the daughter of Jesse and Betty (Florye) Helt, and was a 1971 graduate of Garfield High School.

Mrs. Shorter was a mother’s mother, she devoted her life to her two sons and her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, and working with her hands. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sons, Shawn Shorter, Tampa, Florida, and Brandon Shorter, Brazil; a sister, Carla Weese, Terre Haute; a brother, Les Helt, Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Ethan Shorter, Newburgh, and Brinna Shorter, Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 40 years, David Shorter; a son, Chad Shorter; a brother Bryan Helt; and her grandmother, Nettie Hart.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
