JOHN OLIVER MYLES, Brazil, IN
John Oliver Myles, 73, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at Union Hospital, on August 13, 2024.
John was born on August 23, 1950, in Albany, Georgia, the son of Oliver M. and Rose Mary (Sims) Myles. John was a well-known origami artist and paper sculptor. He was also a talented mechanic and at rope weaving jewelry, dream catchers, and fishing nets often selling his work at area trade shows. An outdoorsman at heart, John loved spending time outdoors especially fishing and woodland plants. He also enjoyed his many cats.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. As a civilian, much of his career was spent as a Civil Service Employee working with the Postal Service in Terre Haute and Brazil. He was also trained in computer operations and worked at the U.S. Government Building in Terre Haute. He retired in 2006.
John is survived by his wife Rita whom he married on the first day of Spring, March 21, 1997; children: John Christopher Myles and wife Emily, Loretta Turner, Anthony “Tony” Myles, Mary Ann Ek and husband Royce, Nathaniel Myles and wife Chelsea, and JoHannah Ingram and husband Robbie; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings: Connie Conley and husband Joe, Bonnie Joy, Steve Myles, Barb Martin and husband Bob, Debbie McIntosh and husband Keith; Dave Myles and wife Rita, and Mike Myles and wife Peggy as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with services beginning at 7:00 PM.
