William Lee Dawson, Brazil, IN
William Lee Dawson, 68, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on August 25, 2024, at Franciscan Health, following a battle with cancer.
Bill was born on October 5, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Clarence William and Judith (Southerland) Dawson. He graduated from Avon High School with the class of 1974. Later, he graduated from Mount Marty in South Dakota with a degree in Parks and Recreation as his dream was to be a Park Ranger.
Bill attended college on a basketball scholarship. His basketball career continued as he was drafted by the Pheonix Suns. He also played in several countries over sea including Polarmo, Italy.
Bill owned and operated Baja Bar and Grill in Terre Haute for several years. He also owned and operated a mowing service and most recently Baja Expediting from which he retired.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed drag racing and drag boat racing.
He was preceded in death by his father: Clarence William Dawson.
He was survived by his wife Julia Dawson whom he married in 2002; his children: Andrew Dawson, Ashley Leonard (Joe), Hanna Dawson, and Emily Dawson; grandchildren: Harper Dawson, Hensley Dawson, Foster Dawson, and Trenton Leonard; his mother and step-father Judith Small (Jim); siblings: Penny Dawson and Peggy Marksbary (Ray) as well as several extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834 on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4-7PM. Services will be held at 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
