Joan worked for P.R. Mallory for more than 20 years and then for Wal Mart for 5 years.
Joan’s husband John was called into the ministry in 1955. Joan and John served in several churches around the area including: Patricksburg Assembly of God, Croy’s Creek Congregational Church, Crisp Assembly of God, Clay Prairie, and New Covenant Church. They were devoted Christians and faithfully served where they were called.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Grace Kerr; her husband John J. Jones; siblings: Elijah Kerr (Margie), Rodney Kerr (Beverly), and Roger Kerr; sisters: Marcelene Porter (Clyde), Gilda Childress (George), Kay Starr (Albert); foster son Mark Estes; infant grandson William.
She leaves behind her children: Rodney Jones (Marlene), Melanie Wiley (Jerry), and Janelle Garrison (Bill); grandchildren: John R. Jones (Rachel), James J. Jones (Jennifer), Stephanie Gurchiek (Bert), James Dickerson, Matthew Baxter (Dawn), Alex Wiley (Brittany), Shane Wiley, Amy Purkhiser (Drew), Erica Bennett (Gerald), Sharaya Jaynes (Matt), and Dayton Cox; great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Mica, Seth, Hannah, Bailey, Ashley, Kade, Eli, Sierra, Johnathan, Kaitlynn, Kolton, Connor, Waylon, Trace, Shailyn, Gerald, Emily, Cole, Shakayla, Mylah, Ava, Dakota, and Emmett; great-great-grandchildren: Chase, Avery, Lovella; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friends Don and Shirley Spencer; beloved pet cat Boo Boo.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Services will be at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
