Over the weekend, Northview’s volleyball program added another championship trophy to their collection as the Lady Knights defeated unranked Indianapolis Lutheran and South Knox as well as Class 2A No. 6 Tecumseh in pool play before downing Class 2A No. 7 Evansville Mater Dei in the title match to claim the Barr-Reeve Invitational championship.

Northview swept all four of its opponents to extend its winning streak to a season-best nine games, putting its overall record at a dazzling 17-1.

And while bringing home the championship trophy was among the highlights of the day, history was made in the second match against Tecumseh. With the 2-0 sweep of the Braves, Northview head coach Scott McDonald earned his 400th career win, surpassing another milestone marker that continues to extend his program-leading tally.

McDonald credited his players and his coaching staff for helping him surpass the 400-win threshold, noting the best part of the job is getting to spend an immense amount of time around what he described as ‘great people.’

“Winning 400 games as a coach simply means you have been blessed to be associated with great players and great people,” said McDonald. “Personally, the wins are just an added bonus. We love working with the kids to make them better students, people and athletes.”

Northview picked up wins No. 401 and 402 for McDonald to cap an unblemished day at the Barr-Reeve Invitational and then turned around and swept Cloverdale on Monday to remain unbeaten in conference play.
