The story of Thrifty Soul Variety Shop is not just about the items it offers but about its unique mission. Maranda McKinney of Soul Light Ministries shares that the shop's concept was born from a holiday discussion with the kids about the importance of helping others.

"We were talking to the kids about how we shouldn't spend money on stuff for ourselves that we don't need, and just from there, our whole family got together and started developing ideas," described McKinney.

For many, finding a deal and supporting local organizations at the opening of Soul Light Ministries Thrifty Soul made for a perfect Saturday.

Inside Out Recovery was on hand with lemon shakeups and sati babis, while Soul Light Ministries had breakfast and lunch ready to raise money for their community center.

In line with Soul Light Ministries' mission, some store proceeds were donated to the Inside Out Recovery group. Each month, a portion of the sales at Thrifty Soul will be donated to a local organization.

McKinney underlines that the shop's successful opening was largely due to the overwhelming support of the local community. The sight of thrift-shopping enthusiasts in action was a definite highlight.

"They're excited, and seeing all the smiles is just awesome," expressed McKinney.

Aligned with its community-focused mission, the thrift store offers a diverse range of items, including clothes, toys, household items, and more. Importantly, these items are priced to ensure they are accessible to everyone.

Soul Light Ministries is bringing light to the community with a wellness center, thrift shop, and, soon, a community center offering an area for performances, gatherings, and dinners.

"It will also be a space people can rent out and do their own events in," said McKinney.

Soul Light Ministries Thrifty Soul is located at 2186 W Us Hwy 40 Brazil, IN 47834 and is open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the first weekend of every month (Thursday-Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
