After defeating Indian Creek in the girls high school soccer season opener, Northview fell in three consecutive games by a combined score of 15-2.

That could’ve, despite the losses coming to teams such as Terre Haute North, Jasper and Greencastle, put doubt into the minds of the Lady Knights. Instead, they’ve responded with back-to-back wins, the second coming in a 9-0 drubbing of Sullivan on Wednesday, to pull themselves back to the .500 mark for the first time since Aug. 20.

Northview head coach Don Bryan said he likes what his group has been able to do the last few days and was proud of the attack they showed in the victory over the Golden Arrows, playing off the momentum of Saturday’s win over Brown County.

“We’ve shown our potential in the last few games going back to Greencastle [on Sept. 5],” said Bryan. “These have been our types of games … Tonight was better too. This has been more like the brand of soccer that Northview soccer has been.”

Northview scored four goals in less than four minutes to open the game, two coming from Addi Modglin, who went on to record a hat trick, and single scores from Lauren Tilley and Sophie Tipton, who both added another goal onto their total later in the night, to put the game out of reach shortly after it began.

Mackenzie Heaton and Reece Isbell found the back of the net in the second half to put the game out of reach. And while Wednesday marked the widest margin of victory for the hosts, Bryan said there were plenty of areas that need to be cleaned up before the team enters the most demanding portion of its schedule over the next couple of weeks.

What specific things was Bryan alluding to?

“We have to be better in terms of decision making. They were in the better positions, but we still need to work on that. Throw ins, we are losing those. Those should be a 75-percent win rate for the throwing team and we’re not doing that,” said Bryan. “We need to recognize more runs. We were so close on so many of those crosses – and the right people were coming – but we were a step off. If we recognize that quicker, that can change things. It’s mostly little things, but that can be some of the hardest things to clean up sometimes, but we’re playing much better.”

After the game, Bryan outlined what was on the horizon for his group.

Northview plays nine games in 20 days, which includes four games – on the road West Vigo, Edgewood and Monrovia and at home against Crawfordsville – next week, to wrap up the regular season. Bryan hammered home the importance of rest and hydration to ensure the Lady Knights are healthy for the start of sectional play in October.

“The next two weeks are killer. We know it’s there. It’s nothing new,” said Bryan. “We would still like to come out of it with a winning record. But really, the most important thing is cleaning up the little stuff. I like the formation we’re playing, and I like the depth that we have, which is something we haven’t had this year. Now, it’s just a matter of keeping this all together. It’s really as simple as that.”
