Northview on cusp of clinching another winning season
With so many inexperienced players slotting into the varsity lineup this fall, Northview boys tennis head coach Emily Goff admitted she wasn’t sure what to make of the roster other than pointing out that the team was full of some of the school’s best athletes.
Her hope? They would figure out the game of tennis quick enough to extend the program’s streak of consecutive winning seasons.
And with three wins – a 4-1 win over Greencastle on Tuesday; a 5-0 win over South Putnam on Wednesday; and a 3-2 win over Bloomfield on Thursday – in three days, the Knights are on the cusp of doing it yet again.
Northview’s record sat at 8-1 entering the Seeger Invitational over the weekend with seven regular season matches and at least one sectional match left on the schedule, meaning one win during the upcoming slate of matches – Parke Heritage, West Vigo, Indian Creek and Edgewood – would clinch a winning record for the team.
Listed below are how each individual Knight fared during the three-match week:
Singles – Brayden Goff went 3-0, defeating each of his opponents in straight sets; Derek Morrison went 1-2, defeating South Putnam for his lone win; and Gavin Roark went 3-0, defeating a pair of opponents in straight sets while outlasting another in a third set tiebreaker.
Doubles – Zac Buell-Lincoln Pierce went 3-0, defeating each of their opponents in straight sets; Christian Bryan-Raj Singh went 2-1, defeating Greencastle and South Putnam for their pair of wins.
