SHIRLEY YVONNE LUCAS, Brazil, IN
Shirley Yvonne Lucas, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on September 20, 2024, while staying at Hudson Wood.
She was born June 2, 1935, in Grimes, Alabama to Carson A. Hales and Pearl V. Hales. She graduated from Garfield High School with the class of 1953. Shirley was a long-distance telephone operator for Indiana Bell Telephone in Terre Haute, Indianapolis, and South Bend, Indiana. She and her husband George Duregger were owners of Brazil Appliance Sales for 19 years. She then worked for Appliance Service Co. in Terre Haute, H.H. Gregg service department, Indiana State Police Post in Terre Haute, and then as a cashier at Wal-Mart retiring in 2008.
She adored her family, loved her friends, and her dogs. She attended First Christian Church and then Eastside Christian Church, in Brazil.
She loved the Lord and was looking forward to spending eternity with Him.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; Carson and Pearl Hales; stepfather Jack Pickett, former husbands James Allen and George Duregger; stepson Todd Lucas, daughter Debra (Allen) Haynes; son-in-law Sam Haynes and Grandson Michael Haynes.
She is survived by her husband Charles Lucas; children James Allen (Debra), George M. Duregger (Marsha), stepdaughter Toma Szabat (Ernest); 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will follow with Pastor Bill Brock officiating. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery.
