Lady Knights finish 12th at Washington Regional
When Northview’s girls golf team finished third in the sectional championship tournament on Sept. 20, head coach Chris Hawk and the school’s athletic administration staff got to work on making plans for their first trip to Washington’s Country Oaks Golf Club, the host site for the regional tournament, in a couple of years.
However, due to the remnants of Hurricane Helene swallowing up the state of Indiana over the weekend, those plans were nixed as the IHSAA postponed the regional, moving it from Saturday to Monday.
Northview arrived at the historically difficult course early in the morning and got its respective rounds underway.
The Lady Knights (419) finished 12th to cap a season Hawk described earlier in the year as one ‘full of growth’ for his group, all of whom will be back next fall with the valuable experience of competing in the second week of the state tournament under their belts.
Kailee James (94) and Amber Moreland (97) led the way for Northview on Monday by posting scores under 100. Behind them included Mia Tribble (112), Maci Brimberry (116) and Marley Baumgartner (122) to round out the Knights’ day.
Castle (317) finished as the Washington Regional champions while Bedford North Lawrence (332) and Evansville Memorial (361) finished second and third, respectively, to advance onto the state championship. Gibson Southern's Haley Hughes (76), North Posey’s Mackenzie Mills (80) and Terre Haute South’s Avery Cassell (81) each qualified for the state finals as individuals from non-advancing teams.
