2 arrested on felony narcotics Monday evening
The Clay County Sheriff's Department released details about two individuals arrested in the local township on felony drug charges Monday.
Sheriff Brison Swearingen said it happened late Monday evening in Van Buren Township.
A Clay County Sheriff's Department deputy was on patrol in Van Buren Township when he observed a vehicle allegedly committing a traffic violation.
During a traffic stop, while speaking with the occupants, the deputy believed other criminal indicators were present.
The officer requested assistance from a Putnam County Sheriff's Office K9 Officer. A short time later, the K9 team performed an outside search, indicating the presence of narcotics in the motor vehicle.
Bryce L. Steadmon, 23, Greencastle, and the passenger, Masey R. Ward, 25, Harmony, were detained during the search.
As the deputies and detectives searched the vehicle, they located approximately 200-250 pills that field tested positive for fentanyl.
Steadmon and Ward were arrested, transported, and remanded into the custody of the Clay County Justice Center Jail Staff.
Both Steadmon and Ward were booked into the facility for Level 2 Felony charges of Dealing in a Narcotic Drug - Level 2 Felony. They remain incarcerated until formal court proceedings on the charges.
