Born April 7, 1927, in Parke County, he was the son of James Eldon and Hila (Cornwell) Brattain.
He was a graduate of Greencastle High School in 1944.
On May 4, 1951, he married Shirley (Herbert) Brattain. She survives.
He was a retired mail carrier and a lifelong farmer in Putnam County. He was a member of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodges of Bainbridge and Greencastle, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, several Swine Associations and an active supporter of the Putnam County 4-H.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Brattain; daughter Marsha Brattain; two sons, W. Kent Brattain and wife Kim and Marshall Brattain, all of Greencastle; one sister Kathryn Singleton, Davis, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter Pamela Brattain.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor J. Daeshner officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday (today) at the funeral home, with a Masonic service scheduled for 7 p.m.
