College offers teacher prep course

Friday, January 2, 2004

The federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 defines the new requirements aimed at strengthening the qualifications needed by the Title I teacher assistants. Those being hired into these positions must meet the new requirement now and those currently in the positions must meet the requirements by January 2006. There are three ways to meet the requirements, by earning 60 college credits, earning an associate degree, or passing a competency test. For Indiana, this is the Parapro test. Materials covered on the test include reading, writing, mathematics, and assisting others with these skills. The State of Indiana requires a passing score of 460 on the Parapro test.
