To the Editor:

Over the last several weeks, I have been reminded of how good it can be to live in the small, close-knit community of Brazil.

In late February, my husband suffered a brain injury. Since that day, he has endured multiple emergency room visits -- including being life-lined to Indianapolis, four hospital stays, two emergency brain surgeries and is now a patient of Holly Hill.

Through this very trying time, I have been blessed with many acts of kindness, prayers and genuine concern from my family, friends, neighbors, medical and nursing home staff and other members of this community.

I could not possibly name everyone who has been so kind to reach out to us, but please know that all of your well wishes, telephone calls and assistance is greatly appreciated.

My children, grandchildren and I are all very grateful for each and every one of you.

Only in a small town could one be so lucky to have neighbors who will watch over your house or feed your pets while you are away, or have a barber who is willing to go to a nursing home for a hair cut.

And, only in a small town can one be fortunate enough to be able to know some of the nursing home staff who are willing to look over your loved one.

A medical crisis is never easy, no matter how good the outcome may be. But when you know you are not going through it alone, it can make all the difference in the world. To everyone who has touched our lives, my most sincere thanks goes out to you.

Sincerely,

Carolyn and George Ervin,

Brazil
