Letter to the Editor

Favoring Obama over McCain

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

To the Editor:

I have no idea whether Orville Redenbacher was a Republican or Democrat.

Likewise, we will never know if he would have supported John McCain or Barack Obama. What I do know is that he would have likely voted for what is best for farmers.

Information that would matter in that decision are: John McCain opposes the $300 billion farm bill and subsidies for ethanol while Barack Obama favors the farm bill approved by Congress this year.

In Wisconsin, McCain said, "I don't support agricultural subsidies no matter where they are. The farm bill, $300 billion, is something America simply can't afford."

In addition to supporting the farm bill, Obama plans to improve rural education and supports the rights of hunters and other lawful gun owners. Farmers in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin are learning that in this election, the party that is looking out for their interests happens to be the Democratic party and their leader -- Barack Obama.
