Letter to the Editor

Why in such a hurry?

Sunday, August 23, 2009

To the Editor:

We are all aware of how our President and Congress have been rushing and pushing to pass this massive and complicated health care bill that is going to put our country a trillion dollars or more in debt.

But have you thought it through as to why the rush and do you realize that if the health care bill is passed, it will not go into affect until 2013?

Why the rush?

Current congress wants it passed before the mid-term elections because they know (after the midterm elections) they will not longer have complete control and power of congress.

Even if the bill should pass, why wait until 2013? Because President Obama anticipates running for a second term and he knows that once the new health care system goes into effect, it will be a disaster and he would have absolutely no chance of re-election.

We currently have two systems to help the elderly and the uninsured, Medicare and Medicaid. Apparently, both of these systems are in financial trouble. The answer is so simple: Take a small portion of the trillion dollars, expand Medicare and Medicaid and make them sound and forget this monstrous overhaul of the health care system.

Please do not support any form of health care reform unless congress abolishes their private, select health care that we are paying for. It a new system is good enough for us, it is good enough for congress.

Please contact our senators and house representative and make your feelings known.

Mary Brannan,
