To the Editor:

In response to ("Country needs more morals," which appeared in the Nov. 23, 2009 issue of The Brazil Times), I agree that this country is moving away from the principles on which it was founded, but I completely disagree on the reasons that I feel that way.

Instead of being accepting and welcoming and loving to all, we make people live in secret and lie about their home lives. We, as a country, obviously do not allow these same people to get married, but force them to "live in sin."

There are protests and hatred toward this group of people all the time. And silly me, I thought the Bible said the greatest thing of all was love.

How odd then that this "Christian country" hates one group of people and doesn't accept them.

But that's another story all together. This country was founded on religious freedom and separation of church and state. (United States Constitution, Amendment 1). We do not live in a theocracy and so therefore, the views of one religious group should not be held more valuable than the views of other religions.

If someone is patriotic enough to risk his or her life for this country, why should we care if that person happens to be homosexual?

"This is my commandment: Love one another as I love you" -- John 15:12.
