Letter to the Editor

Thank you county volunteers

To the Editor:

This week marks National Volunteer Appreciation Week and I wanted to send a big thank you to all of the American Cancer Society volunteers in Clay County.

You are the backbone of the American Cancer Society and our events, such as the Relay For Life and Daffodil Days.

You are all the very reason I am in my current position as Community Representative of Clay County.

We recently finished our Daffodil Days campaign and would like to thank all of you that signed up to be site coordinators and our pickup site, The Brazil Times.

The Relay For Life of Clay County will be celebrating 14 years in May and thanks to all of you that support Relay throughout the community, we can continue to have successful Relay For Life events.

I would like to give a special thanks to the 2010 committee: Janice Piatt, Carrol Evans, Susan Piatt, Kathy White, Gail Null, Pat Krider, Laura Kennedy, Debbie Lawson, Lisa Bell, Janet Weis, Linda Phillips, Linda Goorich, Beth Nevins, Connie Bailey, Ivy Jacobs, Jason Jacobs, Olivia Hutcheson, James Hutcheson and Anne Hoopingarner.

Thank you for being a dedicated group of volunteers that are the "glue" that holds Relay together.

The committee is not the only group that deserves thanks.

Our survivors, team captains, participants, and sponsors play a very important role in the Relay For Life of Clay County.

Seven years ago, I participated in my first Relay For Life event in Clay County. I'm honored that I get to work with the residents of Clay County again in this capacity.

Thank you for being welcoming as I transitioned into my new job.

I look forward to seeing you at Relay May 22-23.

Rachel Romas,

American Cancer Society Community

Coordinator for Clay County
