Letter to the Editor

Remembering the old days

To the Editor:

A few weeks ago, I read a letter by John Dickison of Carbon.

He said he can remember waiting in long lines to get into the local theater to see a free movie and waiting on Santa Claus to arrive. Well, I can remember that too.

During those times, there was no Walnut Theater and no Scene One Cinema.

There was the Cooper Theater, the original name of the theater owned by Stanley Cooper.

When they had regular movies, the ones you had to pay to see, there was a ticket booth by the entrance where you had to stand outside to buy your ticket regardless of the weather.

There was no going straight in and buying your ticket like there is now.

That ticket booth is still there. Only now, they no longer use it and it's boarded up.

I also remember G.C. Murphy, but Murphy's wasn't the only Five and Dime Store in Brazil. There was Oehler's Five and Dime and before that, there was Woolworth.

I don't claim to be a historian, but I grew up in those days, too.

Have a nice day.

John Weddle,

Brazil
