These sidewalks need repairing

Sunday, April 10, 2011

To the Editor:

For approximately 10 years, I have been going to Fun Time Scuba.

After having two strokes and moderately severe to severe arthritis, I have benefited greatly from the heated pool and the low impact exercise equipment.

My many doctors are amazed that am I not in a wheelchair at this time. This wonderful place is run by Jim and Missy Frederick.

But there is a fly in the ointment. The sidewalks outside the building are very hazardous. I myself, have to use a walker, as do a few others.

Several members of Fun Time Scuba are entering the facility using canes, crutches and wheelchairs.

These are people whom have had strokes, hip replacements, heart problems and various other health issues.

They all benefit from the low impact exercise or the heated pool. I might add this is the only facility in our area that offers this wonderful treatment for ones in need.

So from my story, you can see that most of the public that utilizes Fun Time Scuba are rather fragile. The drop in the sidewalk slabs are anywhere from one-half to two-inches and could definitely cause a bad fall.

Jim Frederick has done all he can possibly do to make the sidewalk safe, but it is a losing situation. These sidewalks need to be repaired soon before someone gets hurt.

People without a handicap probably can maneuver these hazardous sidewalks. But if you are unlucky enough to have a handicap, you are placing your well being in jeopardy.

Sincerely,

Judy Taylor,

Brazil
