What exactly is their job?

To the Editor:

On Sunday, July 17, as my kids were playing in the yard, we found a cat in our yard.

We had never seen this cat before and it looked hurt and like it had been starved.

I called the Clay County Humane Shelter to see if they could come get the cat so it would be in a safe place.

They told me that they don't come get pets and that they didn't have any room for any new pets.

I had to call the police to come out to my home and they had to shoot the poor animal.

Something was wrong with this cat and I didn't want the cat near my children because I didn't know what was wrong with it.

I didn't have the means to catch it and even if I did, the Clay County Humane Shelter told me that they wouldn't even take the cat.

They told me that they had more than 100 cats and didn't have room for anymore.

Isn't this what they are there for? To take animals that are in need and that have been abandoned?

What do we have this shelter for if they won't take animals that have been left by others and if they won't take animals that are in need?

I thought the Clay County Humane Shelter was to help protect animals and to make sure they are taken care of.

It's ridiculous that I had to call the police to come take care of this animal when it could have went to the Humane Shelter and might have been able to be saved.

Is the Clay County Humane Shelter not doing their job or do I know what their job is?

Are they only allowed to take so many animals?

And if so, why do they advertise that they are there to help innocent animals if the won't help them when you actually need them to?
